The Dirty Quarter.

This summer some bmx’ers scraped this quarterpipe into the front of this empty lot 2 blocks down the street from The Dept. Then they tried to initiate some turf wars between the bikers and skaters and basically threatened anyone who tried to skate it. Something about smashing people’s faces into their number plates. Evidently there is still some hard feelings about cancelling the bmx sessions at the park. It wasn’t personal. Skaters can’t wreck spots for bikes but bikes can definitely wreck spots for skaters. Anyway, guys skated it and got a few photos. All we can say is no more drama…

I dont think that there should be a big war between BMXers and skaters. I personaly think its dumb that we all sit around and make fun of each other. For you skaters, have you ever tried to ride BMX? And have bikers ever really givin skating a try? Usually the answer is no. I think DOS should reopen for BMX, but i know they probably wont.

As a skater and BMXer I think the whole biker on skater hating is nothing but ignorant people hating on other ignorant people. We all sacrifice our bodies for a sport that we feel pasionate about. Who cares what it is. It’s all about individualalty. If we start hating on eachother then we break down the walls of what we built; a classification of sports reliant on one thing, the individual. All extreme sorts deserve respec,t if you really try and sacrifice yourself for the hope of learning that new trick. Don’t hate, show respect to your fellow shredder. Besides there are plenty of spots to go around. DOS has the right to exclude anyone they want, that’s what America is all about. Get over it!

The turf war between Skater vs BMX is mainly a Portland OR thing. Due to Burnside being built by skaters, a feud grew most likely because BMX riders could use more of the park than the skaters could. Skaters then began to get jealous, and even went to other skate park meeting trying to promote NO-BMX in parks. BMX riders damage parks no more than skaters do, and if you went to Battleground Skatepark in WA there is massive damage done by the ends of trucks to several launch areas of the park as well as concrete ledges carved to a round edge by trucks. A BMX riders pegs are larger and more rounded out than a skaters trucks and actually cause less damage to skateparks than skateboard trucks do.
